As a youth, one of the most meaningful experiences was my participation in Student Government. We had a very caring teacher. As a class we would collaborate to make decisions that affected the entire school. We would also plan events, host fundraisers, service projects and school-wide events. It provided me with many leadership skills and was pivotal to developing my self-confidence.
When I went to college I studied Recreation Management & Youth Leadership specifically because I wanted to work for an organization that helped foster leadership in youth. It helped me and I wanted to give back.
The Downtown YMCA is an organization that helps foster leadership and self-esteem in youth. I get to help youth while still participating in one of my passions (event planning). Perfect fit. It also helps that I absolutely love the mission statement. "The Downtown YMCA is dedicated to improving the quality of human life and to helping all people realize their fullest potential as children of God through the development of spirit, mind and body."

Volunteer
Volunteers in the community greatly support the YMCA. Volunteers play an active role on the Board of Management, in committees and fundraising, as coaches, referees, literacy tutors and office support.
Your involvement as a volunteer is greatly appreciated and is an integral part in the success of all our great programs and events!
