Spoken Word: Kendrick Dial and Lyrical Groove

Kendrick Dial is the reflection of what happens when you take a desire to positively impact the world bridging reality and creativity. He is a native of Dallas, but after nine years of service in the United States Navy, he decided to make San Diego his home. He has served as a performance poet since 2002, and for the past six years he has been apart of the spoken word ensemble Collective Purpose, who are also the organizers of ELEVATED, one of Southern California’s largest spoken word venues. He has been performing with his band, The Lyrical Groove for two years. He has worked in the nonprofit and mental health field for the past seven years, which started when he worked as a substance abuse counselor during his last three years in the Navy. He worked for San Diego Youth Services as a mentor for homeless and runaway youth and another year recruiting mentors for foster care youth. He is currently pursuing his MSW at USC and looks forward to graduating this May. He seeks to combine his love for the arts with his passion of mental health and social service. He has conducted poetry workshops as well as performed at elementary, high school and collegiate classes, and many more faith-based and community events. Overall, Kendrick recognizes the impact art can have on reality and works to create elevating artistry that life will one day reflect.
