THE Y FOR
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We focus our work in three key areas, because nurturing the potential of kids, helping people live healthier, and supporting our neighbors are fundamental to strengthening communities.
TOM STANNARD
Meet Board Member, Tom Stannard!
The Downtown Y has welcomed a new member to their Board Committee. Tom Stannard, a former collegiate soccer player at the Southern Connecticut State University and former Sales Supervisor for the San Diego Soccers and San Diego Padres, has been a member of the Downtown Y for six years. Previously, he was a longtime member of the Mission Valley YMCA.
Tom brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Downtown Y Board. Later in his sales career, he entered the insurance industry with Transamerica Title Insurance, spending two years there until transferring to Fidelity National where he held the designation as the company’s top salesperson in the San Diego area for nine consecutive years. On occasion, he even ranked first in the national network. After 20 years in the industry, which included a promotion to Sales Manager, Tom decided to start his own real estate investment firm.
Not only conscious of staying healthy and keeping in shape (he spends his time at the Y working on a stationary bicycle and lifting light weights), Tom is also mindful of finding ways to better the community: “I have always tried to be publically involved with charities including serving as founder of two: Border Amigos, which led blanket and clothing drives to Tijuana and The Annual Captain Matt Bancroft 3x3 Basketball Tournament which was in honor of a former basketball teammate who was the first pilot killed in the Afghanistan War.”
Tom’s concern for the less privileged stems from his upbringing. He considers himself lucky to have been nurtured by a family with a great appreciation for moral values. He hopes to extend his compassion further as he takes on a prominent role as a Downtown YMCA Board member!
